Dear Opera-lover,
Thanks to your generous support, Opera Theater of Connecticut now celebrates 27 years of presenting exciting opera in an intimate setting and looks forward to a fantastic 2012 season and to future seasons of growth. Over the coming years we plan to increase our production schedule with added presentations in the spring, to add even more educational performances in schools, libraries and community centers through our Overtures series, as well as to expand and develop new musical programming. With a wonderful season planned for this year, we hope that you will “Save the Dates” and join us for a special year of performances.
As its Resident Opera Company, Opera Theater of Connecticut returns to the Sanibel Music Festival in Florida on March 27, 2012 to present Puccini Brought to Life, featuring the music of one of the greatest opera composers and seven talented artists, with digital projections and supertitles. For more information, contact the Sanibel Music Festival at 239-336-7999 or visit their website at www.sanibelmusicfestival.org.
Then, on Saturday, May 12, Opera Theater of Connecticut’s guild presents the 15th Amici Vocal Competition, our bi-annual statewide competition for opera singers, run by The Amici, our network of volunteers, introducing some of the state’s finest young singers. All-day tickets are only $5. Enjoy an exciting day of music! Watch for more details to come. To download an entry form, click here.
Then join us as once again when we present our Spring Gala Concert, Wine Women, and Song. Celebrate them all in a lovely concert of arias, duets and ensembles dedicated to the appreciation of wine, women and, certainly, love! Combine this with an entertaining wine tasting in a lovely home overlooking the Sound and you have an unforgettable event. Over the past seasons this event has sold out, so be sure to reserve your “wine glasses” as soon as the invitations arrive. Watch for more information to come.
Your contributions have made it possible for us to present some of the finest up-and-coming singers in our MainStage productions, and, thanks to you, 2012 promises to be another marvelous presentation! We are thrilled to announce that this summer we present Lucia di Lammermoor, Donizetti’s gothic tragedy/psychological thriller. The intense drama, fueled by the volatile political conflict between two ancient Scottish clans, develops a chain of events that leads to the most spectacular mad scene in opera. Performances are on August 7, 9, 11, and 12, 2012. Featuring the wondrous voices of Amanda Hall as Lucia, David Pershall as Enrico and presenting Luigi Boccia as Edgardo in the intimacy of Andrews Memorial Theater, it is an evening not to be missed. Attendance is growing annually and our past several seasons have sold out, so order now! Use the attached form to reserve your favorite seats before the general mailing of our flyer in June. We still feature Opera Talks by Artistic Director Alan Mann starting one hour and a half before each performance and boxed suppers from Chips’ Pub III served on the lawn, one hour before the show. Back by popular demand, Opera Theater of Connecticut presents, in early December 2012, its reduced version of Hansel and Gretel. The opera is sung in English, accompanied by piano and features a children’s chorus and dancing angels. Abridged to run approximately one hour and fifteen minutes, including intermission, this is the perfect Holiday show and Christmas gift for the entire family. Watch for more information to come.
Due to your support, we have been invited to two special events this season:
On February 11, 2012, at 2:00pm, join six wonderful singers performing arias and ensembles from your favorite classic operas in a Valentine’s Day tribute—Love in the Afternoon—at Nelson Hall at Elim Park, Cheshire. Contact them at 203-699-5495 or www.nelsonhallelimpark.com.
Then join us June 17-23, 2012 for High Cs on the High Seas, a spectacular 7-night Opera Theater cruise to Bermuda, aboard the Celebrity Summit. Highlights include opera concerts starring select Opera Theater of Connecticut singers performing arias, duets and ensembles, all narrated by Alan Mann! See the attached flyer for more information and reservations.
As we celebrate our 27 years of consistent artistic quality, we know that it is more important than ever before to be supported by the audience we serve.
It is thanks to you, our generous and enthusiastic audience, that we have sustained the growth of Opera Theater of Connecticut. Our goal—to keep our ticket prices reasonable and provide high quality operas—depends heavily on support from our many opera lovers. Since Opera Theater of Connecticut is a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 charity, your contribution to Opera Theater of Connecticut is fully tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law and can bring you other benefits while you help the company.
