2018 Season

We have a wonderful season planned

as we celebrate our 33rd anniversary of

providing affordable opera in an intimate setting!

OTC, the state’s oldest opera company, continues to grow with your support and we are pleased to announce that we are presenting, along with our developing local concert and lecture schedule, two operas next year: our summer Mainstage production (August 7, 9, 11, and 12) will be Puccini’s political thriller Tosca and, on April 20 and 22, 2018 Leoncavallo’s stirring and dynamic I Pagliacci.

Last spring’s Romeo & Juliet, In Music and In Verse was so well received that we continue to add new and electrifying productions to our season, and Leoncavallo’s verismo tour-de-force fits the bill perfectly.

Starting an opera company here on the Shoreline was a risk, but we have developed an extensive and dedicated following of those who love opera sung by a professional cast and presented in a manner faithful to the music and the composer.

With that in mind, we look forward to developing some innovative and exciting interpretations with these spring presentations, but nothing that distracts from, or interferes with our audience’s appreciation of, the works themselves.

Tosca

August 7, 9, 11, and 12, 2018

Thrill to the soaring music of the story of Puccini’s heroine of the Arts in this enduring and memorable opera, illuminating the conflicts between purity of heart, love of country, and lust for power.

Tosca, set in the turmoil of the Napoleonic upheaval, is a powerful story blending politics, romantic love, and devotion, combined with the insidious worm of jealousy. The action catapults Tosca into the hands of the evil Scarpia while her lover Cavaradossi is tragically pulled into the intrigue.

Opera Theater of Connecticut’s presentation will feature beautiful costumes, a large and rousing chorus in the famous “Te Deum”, and will be accompanied by Opera Theater of Connecticut’s orchestra, starring a talented professional cast.

The opera will feature OTC’s English supertitles, prepared by Alan Mann, for enhanced audience enjoyment and understanding. To order your tickets, use this secure PayPal button,
